A beautifully preserved piece of Australia's ancient Early Cretaceous forest — this Agathoxylon fossil wood specimen weighs 189 grams and originates from the Orallo Formation near Miles in Queensland, one of Australia's moost significant Mesozoic plant fossil localities. Agathoxylon is a form genus used for fossil conifer wood with a characteristic cellular structure related to the araucarian family — the ancient lineage that includes today's hoop pines, bunya pines, and Norfolk Island pines, all of which have deep roots in Gondwanan prehistory.

One side of this specimen has been polished to reveal the internal wood structure in exceptional detail — the cellular anatomy, growth rings, and resin canals of the original tree preserved in silica over millions of years. The polished surface displays the warm, rich tones of the silicified wood, while the natural reverse retains the raw texture of the original specimen, offering both the refined beauty of the stone and its geological authenticity in a single piece.

The Orallo Formation at Miles has yielded some of the finest Early Cretaceous plant material found anywhere in Australia, and Agathoxylon specimens with this quality of preservation and presentation are genuinely uncommon.
